Our Community of Dancers

I have recently noticed a drop in leads attending most if not all of area clubs dances. This is sad and disturbing. We followers want you to know we so appreciate your hard work and dedication in learning to guide us on the journey through a dance. It’s magical whether you’ve had a few lessons/practices or a lot. Please believe we don’t count the mistakes or missteps, we make enough of our own and understand how it feels.

Come to the dances and honor us as partners and the community we all represent. We’ll try harder to tell you how much we applaud your presence and participation.

Wednesday, August 1 and continuing through the month: Round Dancing with your Favorite Ballroom Steps. Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C St, Spfld. 7:45-9:00 p.m. $3 per person, drop-in. Ballroom dance sequences, mixers, and interesting choreographies. Fun, party atmosphere. Some dance experience helpful. Singles welcome. Wood floor, air-conditioning. Instructor: Sam Bucher. "Fusion" Squares (Square Dance) Monday 7:45-9pm, $3 ID/$3.50 OD drop-in. Willamalane Adult Center. A mix of modern and traditional square dancing encompassing all levels and all lists with both traditional and unique formations and approaches. The class is fast paced and uses a variety of music. No experience or partner required. Drop-ins welcome.

International Folk Dance.Tuesday 7:45-10pm. $3 at the door. Willamalane Adult Center.Weekly request dancing. No partner or experience necessary. Intermediate teaching by guest teachers on the first Tuesday of the month. Drop-ins welcome.

Thursdays, August 2, 9, 16, 23. 30. (& every Thursday all year): Easy Money Dance Band at the Embers. 1811 State Hiway 99 N, Eugene. Talented musicians playing great music for dancing and listening! 8 to 11 pm. Free! Just buy a drink and or food . . .

Thursday, August 2: Bob Marquis Cajun Band. Vanilla Jill’s, 298 Blair Blvd., 6-8:30. All Cajun music! As far as I know, it’s free.

Saturday, August 4: Laura & Robert’s Once-A-Month Dance. Spfld Elks, 1701 Centennial Blvd. Spfld. 7:00 pm, lesson by Laura: Polka. All levels of dancers welcome. 8:00 to 10:00 pm: Open social dancing with DJ Robert playing a mix of ballroom, swing, latin, west coast, night club and more. You won’t be able to sit still! No partner necessary. $9.00 per person at the door. Students $3 with ID. Door Prizes.

Wednesdays, August 8 and 22: Jazz & Variety with Gus Russell & Paul Biondi. Vet’s Club. 1626 Willamette. 6 to 9 pm. Enjoy the outdoor venue! No cover.

Thursday, August 2, 16: Swing Dance at the Pub at Laurelwood Golf Course. 2700 Columbia Street, Eugene. Free lesson in basic six count swing from 7-7:30 and then DJ swing music from 7:30 to 10:00. We play music from the late 1930's to early 1950's with an ear for danceable tunes. Free! Come and enjoy dinner before the dance.

Sunday, August 12, USA Dance Ballroom Club Monthly Lesson/Dance: Eugene Vets Club Ballroom.1626 Willamette St. One lesson only: Beginning/Plus: 6 to 7 p.m. will teach East Coast Swing. Open dancing from 7- 9:30 pm. New price: members and full-time students, $7; non-members, $10. Open to the public! Info: www.eugeneballroom.org

Sunday, August 26: USA Dance’s Tea Dance. Eugene Vets Club Ballroom, 1626 Willamette St. No lesson, but great music to dance away the early evening. 5:30 to 7:30 pm. $5 non-members, $3 for members, at the door.

Thursday, August 30: Zydeco Dance. Laurelwood Pub, 7:30 p.m. Free, but please buy something to eat and/or drink. Lesson by Marsha, a Louisiana native, at 7 p.m. And wear your beads.

Tuesday nights starting August 7th: LINDY HOP I: Beginning Lindy Hop Swing Dance Series Class. 4 week series class for people who want to learn 8 count Lindy Hop swing dance. No Partner required. Location: Salseros Dance Studio at the Vet's Club 1626 Willamette St. in Eugene. Time: Tuesday nights 7pm to 8pm. Registration: Registration for the month is $40 in advance. $45 at the door.

Tuesday nights starting August 7th: Charleston I: Beginner Swing Dance Series Class. 4 week series class for people who want to take a high energy class to faster swing music! No Partner required. Location: Salseros Dance Studio at the Vet's Club 1626 Willamette St. in Eugene. Time: Tuesday nights 8pm to 9pm. Registration: Registration for the month is $40 in advance. $45 at the door.

Wednesday nights starting August 8th. LINDY HOP II: Beginner- Intermediate Lindy Hop Swing Dance Series Class. 4 week series class for people who want to keep learning Lindy Hop swing dance and have taken our beginning class. Location: Salseros Dance Studio at the Vet's Club 1626 Willamette St. in Eugene. Time: Wednesday nights 7pm to 8pm. Registration: Registration for the month is $40 in advance. $45 at the door.

Wednesday nights starting August 8th: Charleston II: Intermediate 4 week series class for people who feel comfortable with beginning Charleston and want more of a challenge. No Partner required. Location: Salseros Dance Studio at the Vet's Club 1626 Willamette St. in Eugene. Time: 8pm to 9:15pm Registration: $45 at the door. $40 in advance.

6:00 to 7:00 pm: Beginning and Beyond Beginning: Cross Step Waltz and Swing

New Dancers; Learn the basics! Beyond Beginners; Learn new variations. Cross Step Waltz: One of the most popular versions of Waltz. Enjoy this wonderful traveling dance.

7:15 to 8:15pm: Intermediate and Experienced: Cross Step Waltz:

Experienced dancers who have the basics in Waltz (Bronze, Silver, Country or Viennese) will love this version of Waltz. If you have always wanted to learn “Silver” Standard Waltz – this is the class for you!
