Volunteering, and the Dance Community

Most of us volunteer to dance because of the energy and connection that comes when we lace up shoes, get together with a partner and whirl around the floor.

That same energy can thrill a dancer who volunteers to help at a dance event. Attendance is important and supportive, but it’s only half of what it takes to plan and carry out an evening of fun for everyone. There are several volunteer opportunities in this List. Thanks in advance for stepping forward!

Thursdays, March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 (& every Thursday all year): Easy Money Dance Band at the Embers. 1811 State Hiway 99 N, Eugene. Talented musicians playing great music for dancing and listening! 8 to 11 pm. Free! Just buy a drink and or food . . .

Thursdays, March 1 & 15: Swing Dance at the Pub at Laurelwood Golf Course. 2700 Columbia Street, Eugene. Free lesson in basic six count swing from 7-7:30 and then DJ swing music from 7:30 to 10:00. We play music from the late 1930's to early 1950's with an ear for danceable tunes. Free! Come and enjoy dinner before the dance.

Friday, March 2 Last Dance for Oregon Ballroom Dance Club’s Winter Friday Night Dances! Beginning & beyond beginning lessons - 7:30 to 8:30 pm. Beginner: Jive; Beyond Beginner: West Coast Swing Gerlinger Hall, U of O Campus. 8:30 to 10:30 pm, open dancing to music selected by community ballroom teachers. $7, community.

Saturday, March 3: Laura & Robert’s Once-A-Month Dance. Trinity United Methodist Church, 440 Maxwell Rd. 7:00 pm, lesson by Laura: Foxtrot. All levels of dancers welcome. 8:00 to 10:00 pm: Open Social Dancing with DJ music by Robert. You won’t be able to sit still! No partner necessary. $8.00 per person at the door., Door Prizes.

Sunday, March 4: Traditional Jazz Society of Oregon 1st Sunday Dance with the Band, All That Jazz. Spfld Elks, 1701 Centennial Blvd. Spfld. Noon to 4:30. $10 at the door. They always have fun bands to dance to and friendly people to dance with! First time is FREE!

Wednesday, March 7 and continuing through the month: Round Dancing with your Favorite Ballroom Steps. Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C St, Spfld. 7:45-9:00 p.m. $3 per person, drop-in. Ballroom dance sequences, mixers, and interesting choreographies. Fun to do, party atmosphere, energetic and good exercise. Some dance experience helpful. Singles welcome. Thursday, March 8: Early Registration Deadline for Laura & Robert’s Spring Dance Classes. 8 Week Class Series from April 5 to May 24. "Fusion" Squares (Square Dance) Monday 7:45-9pm, $3 ID/$3.50 OD drop-in. Willamalane Adult Center. A mix of modern and traditional square dancing encompassing all levels and all lists with both traditional and unique formations and approaches. The class is fast paced and good exercise and uses a variety of music including Gypsy-Jazz and other music styles. The group is very friendly and welcoming. No experience required and no partner needed. Drop-ins welcome. No dance on legal holidays.

International Folk Dance.Tuesday 7:45-10pm. $3 at the door. Willamalane Adult Center.Weekly request dancing. No partner or experience necessary. Intermediate teaching by guest teachers on the first Tuesday of the month. Drop-ins welcome.

Friday, March 9: EFS Contra Dance. Village School (Dunn School) Gym, 3411 Willamette St, Eugene. 9th: Music by Treehouse, calling by Karen Olsen. 7 p.m., Saturday, March 24: Euphemists, calling by Gordy Euler. Beginner Lesson; Dancing from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. $6-10, members; $8-10, non-members. No partner or experience necessary! Please bring soft soled shoes.

Sunday, March 11 : USA Dance Ballroom Club Monthly Lesson/Dance: Eugene Vets Club Ballroom.1626 Willamette St. Intermediate/Advanced Lesson: 5 to 6 pm. Beginning/Plus Lesson: 6 to 7 p.m. Mike & Gail Zera will teach Cha Cha at both sessions. Open dancing from 7- 9:30 pm. New price: members and full-time students, $7; non-members, $10. Friday, March 23 (this month only): Ballroom/Latin/Swing Dance in Corvallis at Timberhill Athletic Club. 2855 Northwest 29th Street, Studio C (upstairs); hosted by Barbara Platt Lauris, open dancing from 7:30-10 PM, $4.

Sunday, March 25: USA Dance’s Tea Dance. Eugene Vets Club Ballroom, 1626 Willamette St. No lesson, but great music to dance away the early evening. 5:30 to 7:30 pm. $5 non-members, $3 for members, at the door.

Location: Salseros Dance Studio at the Vet's Club 1626 Willamette St. in Eugene. Time: Tuesday nights 7pm to 8pm. Registration: Registration for the month is $40 in advance. $45 at the door.

Tuesday nights starting March 6th: LINDY HOP II: Beginner- Intermediate Lindy Hop Swing Dance Series Class. 4 week series class for people who want to keep learning Lindy Hop swing dance and have taken our beginning class. No Partner required. Location: Salseros Dance Studio at the Vet's Club 1626 Willamette St. in Eugene. Time: Tuesday nights 8pm to 9pm.

Wednesday nights starting March 7th: Solo Jazz Series Class. 4 week series class for people who want to learn classic vernacular solo jazz movement. Location: Salseros Dance Studio at the Vet's Club 1626 Willamette St. in Eugene. Time: Wednesday nights 7pm to 8pm. Registration: Registration for the month is $30 in advance. $35 at the door.

Wednesday nights starting March 7th: Lindy Hop III: Intermediate-Team Lindy Hop Series Class. 4 week series class for people who feel comfortable with 8 count Lindy Hop and want to learn more challenging material and perform. No Partner required. But attendance requires instructor consent. Location: Salseros Dance Studio at the Vet's Club 1626 Willamette St. in Eugene. Time: 8pm to 9:15pm Registration: $45 at the door. $40 in advance.
